Welcome to Strings n Things

A great place to play music, sing and socialise

Strings n Things is an informal, family friendly group that meets to play, sing, socialise and have fun. There is nothing nicer that producing great music, with your friends. It was the great Willie Nelson who said “The life I love is making music with my friends.” At our music sessions, group events and performances we have lots of fun, lots of laughs and get a great uplifting feeling when we belt out a good song. This group is for anybody who loves to play a musical instrument or likes to sing. You don't have to sing well or play well; it's a bit of fun, but you'll surprise yourself at how much you will improve in a short time. There will always be someone to help. Some members play and don’t sing, others sing but don’t play, it doesn’t matter. None of us are professional musicians or singers. It's a real pleasure to see absolute beginners progress and the more experienced players display their talents. You don’t have to read music either, it’s a fun thing. We are based around Trearddur Bay on Anglesey and currently have about 30 members who play mostly Guitars and Ukuleles. They are complimented with Cajon drum, Bass Guitar, Lead Guitar, mixed Percussion and Harmonica, Kazoo’s and Tin Whistle. We would love to have other instruments in the group such as Accordions, Clarinets, Recorders, Flutes or Violins. We play many genres of music, ranging from Sea Shanty’s, Folk. 50’s and 60’s, Skiffle, Rock and Roll through to Pop, Country and Blues. Join us to play, strum, sing, and be merry! You’d be so welcome, no matter what your skill levels are. Children who play or sing are very welcome to participate with a parent although songs often have adult themes. FEES: We are a non profit group, we each contribute £2 per session, which pays for the room hire, tea, coffee and biscuits etc., Kazoos , Tambourines, Stationary etc. WHEN: Our practice sessions are once a week, on a Friday 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. We normally have a short coffee break at 5pm. Afterwards the session, some of us drift off to the Driftwood to enjoy a swift ‘alf and a good chat with musical friends. We also provide various performances around the community which will be vary in times and duration. WHERE: Trearddur Bay, Village Hall, (see the ABOUT page for maps and post code). For all the other gigs, Jams and events, including what songs we'll be playing, go to the EVENTS page. Beginners - don't be shy! Don't wait until you "get better". We'll share tips with you and even though you might not be able to keep up with everything right at the beginning, you'll still be able to belt out the songs,. If you strum, you'll catch on quickly to the chords with practice.
